Physical Therapy

Our Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) has completed extensive education on manual therapy techniques and exercise prescription specifically biased towards an outpatient, orthopedic population. The role of physical therapy in rehabilitating from an injury is important in restoring arthrokinematics (joint mobility) and range of motion, increasing flexibility of surrounding musculature, and finally improving strength to allow for pain free functional use of your body.

At your initial physical therapy appointment, our DPT will evaluate your condition, test and assess for dysfunction, diagnose the underlying cause, initiate treatment and give you a prognosis regarding your expected outcome based off of the examination. Approximately 45 to 60 minutes will be allotted to this initial appointment to discuss your subjective report of the current condition, past medical history affecting your potential outcome and to answer any questions you have regarding what physical therapy entails. Follow up visits will be 40-60 minutes in length depending on your needs.

All patients receive a home exercise program that requires minimal to no equipment allowing the patient to take an active role in their recovery and decreasing the overall amount of time from initial onset of injury/pain to resolution of symptoms with return to prior level of function. Once all physical therapy and personal goals are achieved the patient will be given an updated, independent home exercise program. This will allow you to maintain a normal functioning status outside of the clinic once discharged and decrease your risk for future injury.

For those of you who have not worked with a DPT in the past, here is a short list of reminders/expectations to allow for an effective visit:

    1. Please wear clothes that are comfortable and loose fitting (gym clothes and tennis shoes work best) as this allows for easy access to skin and allows for better assessment of your ability to move.
    2. Physical therapy requires manual (hands on) treatment such as soft tissue mobilization, passive range of motion (PROM) and stretching to improve your outcome.
    3. On follow up visits, please arrive 10 minutes early for an active warm up to maximize the effectiveness of the manual treatments at the beginning of your session and maximize your one-on-one time with our DPT.

Remember that Physical Therapists are considered Direct Access providers in the state of Colorado. This allows you to be treated in our office WITHOUT A REFERRAL from a physician. If your condition does require intervention by a specialist, we will be happy to refer you to a physician who is the best fit and the most convenient for you.
